Escape the Split chaos and sail 8km east to the idyllic Dubovica beach on the south shore of Hvar island. Known for its pebbly beach, breathtaking underwater views, and rustic countryside charm, it’s the perfect spot for a picnic and a glimpse of 18th/19th-century rural living. Savor the local cuisine at the beachside restaurant and get there by boat or car from the Hvar harbor. My girls and I didn’t sail here, rather we took the ferry from Split and found ourselves here.

JUMP TO
ToggleAs for months, it is safe to assume that late April til early September is the best window to visiti Hvar Island. Dubovica Beach is a slice of paradise indeed, especially for humans living in western Europe, where winter feels like cold hell.
To avoid the crowds and have the beach to yourself, arrive early like a 8-9am bird. Have the whole beach to yourself. Enjoy the quietness.
But be prepared for a sea of people and a parking spot scarcity as noon approaches. The water is crystal clear, and the beach is spotless, just watch out for those pesky sea urchins hiding in the rocks. That being said, if you’re a novice in spotting these little spiky monsters, wear swimming shoes.
Well, you could swim there like a mermaid🧜♀️, fly there like a seagull🦅, or even row there like a pirate🏴☠️. But let’s be real, the most practical way is by car or boat, just don’t forget to bring your sunscreen and a sense of adventure! Joke.
It’s about 15-20 minutes away from Hvar Port by car. If you intend to come here and many other beaches and destinations around the island, it is best to rent a car before your trip. If you come by car, it’s also best to arrive early, say by 8 or 9 am the latest, so you won’t spend most of your beach holiday finding a parking spot. 😛
One problem with coming here with a car though, aside from finding a parking spot is wiggling your way out of the parking spot when you decide to leave earlier than the other motorists.
Solution: Rent a bicycle in town and have a little adventure. The road is mostly flat. So cycling here is not too pant-inducing.
You park your car by the road. You still have to walk down for about 15-20 minutes to the beach.
The path to Dubovica beach is a bit of a hike, just like most beaches in Hvar island, but don’t let that stop you from reaching the pebbly paradise. It’s a steep and rocky path, but it’s not treacherous. The 15-20 minutes walk will be worth it once you see the amazing beach.
Wear shoes to avoid any possible blisters or unnecessary cuts.
Duba Beach Bar
Dubovica Beach just got a whole lot cooler with this little gem of a beach bar!🍹 It’s great, but basic, but sometimes basic is all you need, especially when you’re looking for a cold drink and a little shade after a swim. Plus, it’s the perfect pit-stop before the trek back up the hill or for another swim on the beach.
Konoba Dubovica
The restaurant is perched on the beach with a picturesque garden home to fluttering butterflies🦋. The service is top-notch, super friendly, and the food is a beach bar’s dream come true. We munched on succulent Sardines and Shrimps, both in generous portions, served with a side of bread. Yum!🐟🍤
