Visiting the Tent City Before 2013 Ends

Yesterday, we visited the Tent City at Cebu South Road Properties where some of the survivors of the Super Typhoon Yolanda took refuge. Temporarily, I hope.

Chad and I personally selected the toys at Carbon, the biggest and cheapest market in Cebu. We argued, deliberated, and finally agreed on the toys that we should buy for the kids. We asked some teachers at iTalk, an online school where I work, to help us wrap them as we visited and distributed cash gifts and little joys to the kids in northern Cebu. A separate entry is dedicated for each town that we visited. We will get the names of the teachers as well so we can properly acknowledge them here.

We ordered spaghetti from Jollibee, the most famous fast-food chain for kids here. We actually asked if we could hire a mascot, but there wasn’t one available yesterday.

The kids enjoyed the toys and spaghetti. They instantly played with the toys after eating their meal. Chad, kid that he is, played with them.  Some girls wrote on the notebooks and slam books inside their tent.

We are grateful to Virginia, Jean, Chrissy, and Jean’s cousin for coming with us. Thank you, girls.

It was as heartwarming as it was hopeful to end the year with.

Thank you for all the donors at Paideia School, Georgia, USA!  May 2014 bless you for your generosity. Daghang salamat!

  1. Great photos! The Philippines might have been beset by tragedy in 2013. But the kindness and compassion a lot of people to those who’ve been devastated brings HOPE. 🙂
