A beach dotted with blue and yellow sun umbrellas. Lounge seats perfectly lined up like soldiers. Beach peddlers with their kites, trinkets, beach towels, and hats. And a man who occasionally passed by with his wheeled cart of ice cream, beer, and cocktails. And the glorious sun, sky, and alternating cool-warm waters. This was Jesolo to me.
I didn’t know anything about Jesolo or Lido di Jesolo at all. My partner, the designated driver and travel planner for anything couple travel, decided that this was the first stop of our week-long road trip that spans Jesolo, Venice, and Lake Como in Italy and then drive farther south to Lugano, Switzerland, before heading back home—Munich. He chose Jesolo because I get grumpy when my salty personality is not dipped in saltwater every three months. Jesolo camping is the perfect combo to experience the beach and Venice altogether.
JUMP TO
ToggleWhen I say Jesolo, I’m referring to the entire elongated strip of land facing the Adriatic Sea. Map for reference
It’s a seaside resort town and commune in the Metropolitan City of Venice, Italy, home to about 26,447 lucky inhabitants. And let me tell you, Jesolo is the real deal when it comes to camping.
Lido means shore in Italian. Lido di Jesolo means Jesolo beach, duh, which is part of Cavallino-Treporti, so most likely, on Booking.com, you will see the location of your resort in Cavallino Treporti.
Jesolo is such a hit with tourists that it’s ranked as the 7th most visited destination in the country. That’s right, move over Rome and Florence, Jesolo’s in town now. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, Jisolo is also the fourth most popular Italian seaside resort.
With a whopping six million visitors each year, Jesolo is like the Beyoncé of beach resorts in Italy. It’s basically a superstar that everyone wants to see, and who can blame them? The glistening black sandy shores and crystal clear waters are out of this world.
If you ask this tropical ass who has been to some of the best Beyonces in Asia (hello, I’m Jona, I’m from the Philippines), Jesolo is more like an ordinary Karen you can tolerate because there is no one else available for a quick pick-me-up. But don’t listen to this whiny Asian who misses her beaches and bitches back home. Camping in Jesolo remains one of the best things we ever did in 2022.
Lido di Jesolo is a popular camping destination for the Italians, Swiss, Germans, and many other Europeans.
Camping in Jesolo, just like the rest of Europe, is not the same with wild camping in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Wild camping is prohibited. So Jesolo camping sites provide a parking space for your campervan or RV while you enjoy the amenities provided by the camp sites.
Camping sites cater to every kind of campers, from the most basic to the most posh, giving you access to top-notch amenities. From swimming pools to on-site restaurants and bars, you’ll never be bored or hungry. And if you need to take a break from the sun, you can always participate in some fun activities organized by the campsite, like sports tournaments or dance parties. And if you’re traveling with kids, some Jesolo campsites offer fun activities, like dance lessons or Zumba.
Plus, let’s not forget about the nightlife. Lido di Jesolo is known for its buzzing bars and clubs, and as a camper, you’ll be right in the heart of the action. Whether you’re in the mood for a laid-back beach bar or a wild club, there’s something for everyone.
Venice can be day-tripped from Jesolo. Reaching these beautiful and often packed canals only takes a bus and a boat ride from Punta Sabbioni.
If you’re a fan of warm weather and lots of sunshine, then the summer months (June to August) are your best bet. The temperature during this time can range from the mid-20s to low 30s Celsius, so make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and light clothing to beat the heat.
However, keep in mind that the summer months are also the busiest and most crowded time of year, which means you might have to deal with more people and longer lines for activities and facilities.
If you prefer a quieter and cooler camping experience, spring (April to May) and fall (September to October) are good choices, the campsites and beach will not be as packed.
The weather during these months is usually mild and comfortable, with temperatures ranging from the mid-teens to mid-20s Celsius.
IMPORTANT TIP: Bear in mind though that by mid- to late September, camping sites are closed. So we came here in early September to escape the declining temperature in Munich and, at the same time, to not clash with the maddening European summer crowd.
Typically, most campsites in Italy open up shop in the first half of April and close their doors after the summer season. You can expect most campsites to shut down at the end of September or early October, with a few brave souls staying open until November.
We’ve compiled a list of the best camping sites based on reviews and recommendations to ensure your camping experience is incredible. Let’s go!
TIP: We stayed in the southern side of the beach stretch because Punta Sabbioni, where you catch a ferry to Venice, is just a short bus ride away. So this list of the best camping sites in Lido di Jesolo are located in the southern end. You’re welcome. 😉
