AUSTRALIA VISA GUIDE FOR FILIPINOS 2022 | How to Get an Australian Visa

How to Get Australian Visa? The Fast and Easy Way.

Sydney Opera House, Australia. Almost broke but still smiling.

AUSTRALIA VISA GUIDE FOR FILIPINOS | I got mine within twenty-four hours! True story! How to get an Australian visa online.

Australia is a country and continent located in the southern hemisphere. It is known for its incredible coastline, diverse wildlife, and vibrant cities. If you are planning a trip to Australia, you will need to obtain a visa before you travel.

There are different types of Australian visas available, depending on your purpose for travel. This guide will focus on the Australian Visitor Visa – Tourist & Business Stream (subclass 600), which is for people visiting Australia temporarily for holidays, to visit family or friends, or other short-term non-work purposes.

To apply for this visa, you will need to submit an online application through the Australian Department of Home Affairs website. The process is relatively simple, and can be completed in a few steps.

This guide solely focuses on how to get Australian visa for Filipinos online. This means your physical presence or physical submission of the requirements are not needed. The good thing about applying for Australian visa, it does not require you to present a travel itinerary, hotel booking, and all those stressful requirements other  developed countries imposed.

My visa application was approved within 24 hours, much to my surprise! The online application was easy as long as you have all the documents needed.

But if you prefer to submit all the requirements physically and you are based in Cebu, you can go to

VFS Global Services Philippines Private Inc.,
9th Floor, Keppel Center, Unit 905, Samar Loop
cor. Cardinal Rosales Avenue,
Cebu Business Park, Cebu City 6000 (This is near Ayala Cebu; it is the maroon building across from Sun Life Building. Japan consulate is also in the same building.)

TAKE NOTE: Applying via VFS takes more time and entails more requirements. You cannot pay by cash or credit card. There is a need to get a manager’s cheque to pay for your visa application.

How to Get Australian Visa? The Fast and Easy Way. Do it Online.

STEP 1 Gather all your Australia visa requirements

In my case, I prepared and scanned all the following documents.)

✔️Scan the page that has your photo and passport information
✔️Scan all pages that have stamps [to establish your travel history]
✔️Birth Certificate

Financial Documents:

✔️ Bank Certificate [IMPORTANT READ: Why you must have a separate travel fund bank account. The amount in your bank account should be proportional to the number of days you are staying in Australia. It took me two years to reach my Php180K, my initial travel fund for my year-long trip with Tobias]
✔️Certificate of Employment [For freelancer, I advise you to ask for a certificate of employment from your regular client. Ask them to indicate the amount you earned from them.]
✔️Income Tax Return [Can be foregone as long as you have an established travel history and enough supporting documents to prove that you can fund your trip]

Supporting Documents:

✔️Monthly Pay Slip
✔️Latest Credit Card Statement (I included two credit cards)
✔️My Sunlife VUL (If you have land titles, life insurance, investment, include them here.)

Mode of Payment

I used a credit card for the visa application fee ($135, roughly Php5000.00). Debit card and Paypal are now accepted as well.

2. Go Online

Make sure you have a stable Internet connection.

You will upload loads of documents. So make sure your internet can hold up for the task.

 Create an Immi Account

Immi account is the online visa application system of Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

 Start your application.

There are 18 pages to fill up. The documents mentioned above will be uploaded on the last part.

Review all the pages before you click the submit button.

Pay the online visa application fee.

You will receive an acknowledgement email that your application has been received.

3. Wait like an eager lover.

You will also receive an email if your visa is granted or rejected. If it is granted, all you have to do is to print the PDF and bring it with you once you travel to Australia. If you want to have a visa stamped on your passport, you have to pay extra for that. And personally, I do not want to. A visa stamp eats up an entire passport page.

The application process can last up to a month. Ayn got his within a week. Edcel and Sheena got theirs after three weeks.

As I said, my application is granted within 24 hours. Perhaps because all my documents are complete. I got a multiple entry visa valid until October 20, 2017.

Odd though that Australia’s multiple entry visa can only last a year, unlike Japan’s or the USA’s.

Here is hoping you find this entry helpful!

As you can see, it is not as hard as thought it would be. The online application and transaction is easy and fast. Poor but want to travel abroad? You might want to read this.

FAQs: AUSTRALIA VISA GUIDE FOR FILIPINOS 2022 | How to Get Australian Visa

Should I get a single or multiple entry visa?

It solely depends on your purpose. I got a multiple entry visa, valid for a year. My partner and I traveled to Papua New Guinea for two weeks, located north of Australia. One of the possible exits from PNG is the land down under. And, Australia might also be a possible entry for our trip to South America. I stated these reasons in one of the many pages of the application forms.

Should I book my flights and hotels before I process the visa?

Nope. Australia’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection does not require its possible visitors to do so.

Should I have a health checkup?

If you are applying for a tourist visa and you’re only staying for 3 months max, you don’t have to. Check the different types of visa Australia has.

Do I have to show up for the interview?

Nope, you don’t. That’s the good thing about Australia, compared to other developed countries, it is less taxing to process the visa.

Do I need a notarized document from the ambassador of Australia?

Nope, you don’t. I listed all the requirements above.

Can I apply an Australia tourist visa online for a group?

Yes, you can. You will be asked if you’re applying online for an individual or for a group.

Do I need to present an itinerary of my Australia trip?

Nope, you don’t have to. But you will be asked for your Australia address instead once you made it in Australia. Simply give the address of the hotel  you’re staying for the first few days. Or if you are staying with a friend or relative, just indicate their address.

What are Australia’s Covid-19 travel requirements?

As of August 2022, you do not need to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test or vaccination to travel to Australia. Masks are mandatory on all inbound international flights, and you should also be aware of local mask requirements from your point of departure. Check here for the most updated Australia’s travel requirements.

My boyfriend sponsors my trip. How to process the needed papers online?

I could not help you with this aspect. I made this guide out of my own experience. So please check other resources online that detail the process that you need for this.

And if you find this entry helpful and are looking for a hotel to stay in Sydney, consider booking your hotel through these affiliated links. You won’t pay extra, rather Booking.com shares its commission with me.

Again, there are only 7 easy steps to get your Australian visa

Hi!! So you did not submit any plane or hotel bookings right? Im about to lodge my application in a week. Just asking around…

  7. Mae says:

Thank you for this informative post. It would really help me with my application to Australia soon as a freelancer myself. On that note, do you have something about application for visas to New Zealand as well?

  8. Kaye says:

    Hi Jona,

Just wanted to confirm since it’s not listed on your blog if you also submitted a passport size photo and an itinerary before your visa got approved. Thanks!

    • Hi there, Kaye! As I’ve mentioned, getting an Australia visa is not as strenuous as getting a US or Schengen visa. So there is no need to present an itinerary. I did not submit a passport photo either. I’ll include your question in the Q and A part. Thanks!

      • Kaye says:

Thank Jona for the swift response! Aside from the items you submitted above, did you also made a cover letter? Any idea if you need at least 6 digits on your bank account? I am planning to apply in two months I am worried I might not be able to achieve it because of the minumum money requirement. Thanks!

        • I got 6 digits in mine. But I think it is not really needed as long as your savings are proportional to the number of days you’re going to stay in. Nope, as I said, I did not submit a photo nor a cover letter. If I did not mention it, it means I did not do it. 😉

      • Kaye says:

Did you also submit a passport sized photo? Just wanted to confirm because it was not listed on the blog. 🙂 thanks!

  9. Kaye says:

Thank you Jona. One last question. How come you did not submitted a passport sized photograph? Checking on their website (https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/600-/Visitor-visa-(subclass-600)-Tourist-Stream-document-checklist), they are requiring to have one. Is this only for those applicants who wish to apply personally and not online? Please enlighten me. Thanks!

  10. Michael says:

Hi. In the part where you indicate how long you intend to stay in Australia, did you select up to 3 months or up to 12 months? I was wondering if it has an effect on how long the validity of VISA will be granted. Planning to go there for 1-2 weeks but hoping to get multiple entry for 1 year to visit be able to visit more often my sister without applying every time. Thinking if I should select up to 12 months but I don;t know if it will require us to have medical exam.

    • Hi there, Michael. For a tourist visa, you’re not allowed to stay up to 12 months. Maximum stay for tourist visa is only 3 months-long. I said, 1 month and clicked multiple entry visa and stated my reason for asking so.

  12. Danica says:

Hi there! Thank you so much for writing this blog entry. It helps me a lot… I have a question, dear. I already purchased my plane ticket and made hotel reservations, and I’ll be applying for a visa this weekend via online. One of my friends mentioned to not declare a specific travel period (hence, I should not declare my purchases), do you think the same? Then, for the monthly payslip, should it be for 3 months? Or the latest payslip will do? Thank you.

    • Hi there, Danica. As I’ve mentioned in the entry, I did not book anything before I applied for the visa. If you are certain that your visa will be approved, then go ahead. Better not declare that you have booked your flight and hotels too. Three months is better than one month.

  13. Pixie says:

Hi there Jona, may I ask if the visa grant was sent directly to the email address you have used or is it found in the immiAccount? I have lodged my visa with an agency but the problem is I do not have the access with the immiAccount and the agency is not that responsive with my messages. I only have the access with the email address used and have received the automated email. I was just wandering if the grant is inside the immiAccount or the email itself. Thank you!

  14. hannah says:

Hi Jona, may I ask you attach a cover letter to your application? Thanks

  15. Mariz says:

Hi Ms. Jona, plano ko po sanang mag submit online ng application kaso nung mag attach na po ako ng documents I clicked the blue button na may question mark then yung nakalagay po don I need to submit a certified copy of that document does that mean kelangan pong naka notaryo po ang document na yun? I actually saw don po sa FAQ na hindi na kelangan pero just to clarify or baka may changes lang po. Thank you

    • Hi, Mariz.Nope, pag-online application, there is no need for notarized documents, well, as per my personal experience. Just scan all the needed documents. Good luck with your application!

    • May says:

      Hi Mariz,

Natuloy ba ang pag apply mo online? I am currently applying online and I wanted to know how you did on your application. Pina certified copy mo ba mga docs mo? Na approve ba? Thanks

Hi Ms. Jona. I’m about to apply for a visa January next year. Do they still require the passport size photo? For online application what are the steps or requirements to attach it. Thank you!

  18. Koleen says:

Good day! I hope you can help me. I’m in the middle of filling out my online application form and I’m being asked what is the relationship between me and the one who will sponsor my travel (page 12/20). Since it’s my boyfriend who is sponsoring the trip I was hoping that “friend” would be available in the drop box list pero wala po kasi eh. What do you think could be the problem? Thanks for helping me out 🙂

    Hi Jona,

  22. Les Limson says:

Hi, your blog is very informative! I just want to ask if I can declare my payroll account as my bank statement/certificate? I am making this account as stable as it is possible with minimal cash withdrawn and have almost 100k ending balance. I am worried now and it is my fault not to have a separate personal savings account. Will apply on the last week of June or first week of July, I am travelling with my boyfriend’s family. Hope you can help me with this. Thanks dear!

    • Hi there, Les. Yes, that can be counted as financial statement. I also did that. I used my payroll. Your Payroll should be attached to a bank account no? If that so, you can ask a bank statement from your bank. And print out your payroll at the same time. Good luck and let me know if you enjoyed Australia as much as I did.

  23. Tine says:

    Hi,

    I have a few questions:
    1. Can I use one Immi acct for my son and my fiance? I read somewhere that group application should be your relatives but we are not yet married.
    2. Were all your documents printed and scanned? I have Taiwan e-visa pdf, do I need to print it then scan it pa?
    3. Did you submit bank cert only? My acct is almost 3 months old only and planning to just submit the bank cert.

    Thanks!

    • 1. I don’t have the answer, dear. But I think it is applicable.
      2. The purpose of scanning your documents is to make it digital. If you print your e-visa and scan it, that’s being redundant. You don’t have to.
      3. Read the guide thoroughly. I include all the docs I submitted. Thanks

  24. Rai says:

Hi, loved your blog! By the way, do you need certified copies of all the documents? Also, I cannot find the section where I need to Attach my birth certificate. Which section did you attach yours? For the birth certificate ID number, do you have any idea where can I actually find it? 🙂

Thanks in advance for your help!

  25. Jade says:

Hi Jona! I’ve read from another blog na bank statement ang sinubmt. But in your case, bank certificate lang po sinubmit nyo, right? Thanks!

    • What’s the difference? The bank certificate has your bank statement for the past the three months. I think I got both.

      • Jade says:

Bank Certificate is a certification that the applicant has a certain account on that bank with a remaining balance as of date. Bank statement shows your Statement of Account in a certain period with account history and transactions. Usually 3 or 6 month period, depends on the requirement of the embassy. I’m confused lang if required talaga na 6 months or pwedeng 3 months lang. So yung sayo, 3 months lang pala. Thanks!

  26. grace says:

  28. Jason Briggs says:

The post is informative and likely to get the best working-holiday visa with your stress-free guide.

  29. Ysa VDD says:

Hi, I was wondering when does the 3 month-Aussie Tourist Visa start? I plan to apply by December, for a trip around April. Does the 3 month visa start right after it is issued to you, or does it start on the dates you plan to travel? Thank you.

  30. Leah says:

Hello my dear. Just want to ask, regarding with the group application, is it okay to apply with my friends (senior citizens) or only applicable to family group? Your response is highly appreciated.

  31. Alden Joyce says:

Hi! I just want to ask po, this will be my first time to travel. I only have payroll account, pero palagi ko rin pong winiwithdraw lahat ng amount. So meaning, walang natitira. I just opened a savings account last week. But it only has 10k initial deposit. Balak ko pong patransferan ng 50-100k yung account na yun. And will apply for visa early Feb. Do you think may maging prob po yun? My Australian boyfriend will finance my trip including accmodation, food and travelling expenses. 2nd question po, wala pong boyfriend or friend sa lists ng sponsor. What will I choose po? Thanks in advance!

    • Jona | Backpacking with a Book says:

Hi there, Alden! When it comes to this, I have no personal experiences. Give it a try and ask your boyfriend to do the research.

  32. AJ says:

Hi po Ate Jona! Just want to ask po, if my bf will sponsor me for my trip to Australia (travel expenses, food and accomodation), my questions are:
    1. Is it required for him to submit his bank statement and COE or letter of invitation is enough already?
    2. We’re still not sure when is the exact date of arrival and departure. But we’re hoping for 3 months stay. If we indicate just one month, say from March 31, 2019 to April 30, 2019. But say we want to maximize the 3 months stay, will I be allowed? I mean I only put one month stay on the planned arrival and departure. But later on decided to maximize 3 months. (We’re worried cuz it may require us to have bigger amount of show money, so we’re thinking of just putting a one month stay.)
    3. What will I choose on the lists of sponsor if he’s just my boyfriend? Boyfriend or friend is not listed on the choices. There’s fiance’ on the choices, but we’re not engaged.
    4. Can I use my payroll account, even tho I always get all the money there every payday? I only leave 50-100 on that account. And I just opened a savings account at BPI last week. I’m planning to ask my father to transfer money on my account. But I”m worried that I may be questioned if I also submit that.

Thanks in advance for the reply po.

    • Jona | Backpacking with a Book says:

Hi there, Alden. I think if you indicate that you only want to stay for a month, the immigration might only give you a month. It’s better to indicate the planned stay. You can submit your payroll (the latest three months) and your saving account statement.

As for your boyfriend’s documents, I really don’t have a first-hand experience on this matter. But just give it a try and hope for the best!

  33. AJ says:

Thank you very much for answering my questions po 🙂 Additional question po, what if my father will sponor me? But I’m an illegitimate child. Am I allowed to be sponsored by him though I’m illegitimate? Btw, my father acknowledged me on my birth certificate. Thanks po sa reply. God bless you po :))

  34. Eliza says:

Hi! I want to ask about the requirement (life insurance). What do I need to send to the embassy if I want to include my life insurance as a requirement? Is it the policy copy ba? Or do I need to ask an specific document from the Insurance company?

I hope for your reply thanks!

  35. GILMORE GOREMBALEM says:

    Hi!

Regarding the tourist visa application, I have read that “You can get an Australian tourist visa as soon as 12 months before your intended arrival. However, tourists usually apply at least three months before. -” I just want to find out how true is this or is there any rules like that? I am planning to apply now ahead of time. Hoping you can answer as soon as possible. Thanks.

  36. Jasmine says:

Hi i would just like to ask how did you attach your passport photograph?
And is it required to attach an itinerary of activities?

  37. Issa says:

I’m here to thank you for this amazing blog. Thanks also to those who commented. I must stress that you guys really did help me a lot for my visa application. Ilang gabi din akong puyat before I lodged my application. So what I did po, I wrote down everything na nabasa ko dito na alam kong makakatulong sa application ko. I resigned from my job of 12 years in March this year and some people told me that it would be impossible for my visa to be granted kasi unemployed ako. THEY’RE WRONG!!!

Before I created an account sa ImmiAccount, I initially went to the most popular Travel Agency dito sa Province namin and the guy I’ve spoken with asked me kung may kakilala daw ba akong Business Owner that could provide a fake Certificate of Employment kasi malabo daw na ma-grant visa ko dahil unemployed ako. Para sa akin, madali lang naman mag-provide ng COE kasi marami naman akong kakilala na Business Owner. But, after reading some travel blogs, I was convinced to apply a Visitor Visa kahit na wala akong trabaho. I’ve just written po a very detailed Cover Letter, I’ve stated there the reasons kung bakit ako nag-resign sa trabaho ko at kung ano ang gagawin ko sa Australia. Bale, I’ve attached 53 documents po, everything was converted po sa PDF file which I did it online. Kung marami kayong documents na i-a-attach, you can just combine them para isang attachment na lang. I advise you to purchase Adobe Acrobat DC, it’s very convenient po at marami kang pwedeng gawin with it, it only had cost me Php1,246 per month. The subscription will automatically be renewed the following month, so you need po to unsubscribe or cancel your subscription before it expires kung wala na kayong paggagamitan. It’s expensive but it’s worth it po. Please also note that the maximum is 60 attachments only kaya kelangan niyo pong mag-combine ng mga documents, which you can do it with the help of Adobe Acrobat DC. With regards with the photos naman, you can use Photo Collage Applications online. And also, just in case na wala kayong scanner, you can download CamScanner application from Play Store and just use your phone to take photos of your documents. Trust me, that app is very helpful.

Sponsored po ako ng bf ko, so I had to prove our relationship by attaching the following documents:

    From my Boyfriend:
    1. Statutory Declaration
    2. Invitation Letter (He stated in his Invitation Letter when and how we met and that he’s supporting me financially as I resigned from my full time job in March.)
    3. Business Transaction Account
    4. Personal Bank Statement/Bank Certificate
    5. Photocopy of Passport and Driver Licence
    6. Constitution of his Business
    7. Photocopy of his latest Business Insurance Payment
    8. Lease Agreement

All of the above documents po were signed and certified by the Justice of the Peace.

On my part, I’ve attached these documents:
    1. Well-detailed Cover Letter (Signed and Scanned)
    2. Expired and Current Passport Bio Pages (I scanned them, got them notarized, tapos I scanned them again after.)
    3. Stamped Pages of my Expired and Current Passport (I’m a frequent traveller, so I’ve combined all the scanned pages with the help of Adobe Acrobat DC para maging isang attachment na lang. 1 attachment for the Expired Passport Stamped Pages and 1 attachment for my Current Passport Stamped Pages.)
    4. Visa Documentation (Scanned). The Visa that was issued by China Embassy.
    5. Hong Kong Landing Slips (Scanned). Yes, I also attached them doon sa Evidence of the applicant’s previous travels – Other.
    6. Latest NBI Clearance (Scanned).
    7. Passport Sized Photo with Printed Name and Signature at the back (Scanned front and Back)
    8. Bank Statement (Previous 6 months) and Bank Certificate (Both were scanned)
    9. Credit Card Statement (I took a screenshot of my latest credit card statement online kasi by the time na nag-apply ako ng Visitor Visa for Australia, hindi pa ipinapadala ‘yong Credit Card Statement (through mail) as I changed my registered address.)
    10. Clear Photo of my Credit Card (Front only)
    11. Certificate of Employment from my Previous Employer (Scanned only). The reason why I attached it to my application was, for me to prove that I was employed for 12 years.
    12. Latest Income Tax Return from my Previous Employer (Clear Photo)
    13. PSA Birth Certificates of myself, my mom and dad, and my son (Scanned)
    14. PSA Marriage Certificate (Scanned). I’m married but separated for 10 years. I’ve stated that in my Cover Letter, too, with an Affidavit from the Attorney.
    15. Photos (Photos of me and my son together, and Family Photos (Me, my mom and dad, and my son). I made a collage and combined them into 1 attachment.
    16. Family Composition (I downloaded the form and filled it up thoroughly. Signed by me and my mom, as my witness.)
    17. Affidavit of Consent from the Attorney which states that my mom and dad will be one to take care of my son while I’m on holiday. It was signed by mom and dad.
    18. ID cards and Barangay Clearance of my mom and dad (Scanned)
    19. Proof of Remittances (Scanned). These were the receipts from Western Union, to show that my boyfriend is supporting me financially.
    20. Photos of me doing Community Service (In Photo Collage)
    21. Detailed Travel Itinerary (Converted to PDF file)
    22. Proof of my relationship to my Sponsor. I’ve attached the following:
22.a Screenshots of our Viber Video Calls
22.b Screenshots of our Viber Messages
22.c Screenshots of Call Logs. This is not necessary but I attached it to my application only to show the duration and how often we both call each other.
22.d Photos of us together on our Holidays
22.e Our Flight Tickets, Boarding Passes and Hotel Accommodation
22.f Photos of my boyfriend with my Family
    23. Medical Certificate from my Doctor (Scanned). This is very important if you have had Tuberculosis like me. I was diagnosed with Tuberculosis when I was younger and was under medication for 9 months. Some visa applicants don’t want to declare they have had TB kasi iniisip nila na baka matagalan ang processing or baka ma-deny ang application nila. It’s not true po and it’s not a good idea to conceal na nagkaroon ka ng TB before as it would just affect your future visa application (this includes your visa application that would require you to have a medical exam, like if you want to stay longer than 3 months or if you want to migrate to Australia). If you lied po on your previous visa application, there would be a possibility that you’ll be banned from entering Australia. Mas mahirap po ‘yon, so the best po to be honest all the time.
    24. Latest X-ray result (Scanned)

I’m looking after my son, so I also attached the following to my application:
    25. His Certificate of Enrollment (Scanned)
    26. His Certificate of Completion (Clear Photo)

That was all. In my case, they required me to have a Health Assessment as soon as I lodged my application, and that was expected. I complied and completed the Health Assessment as soonest possible time kasi ayokong matengga application ko. My boyfriend and I were both shocked as the processing was quicker than we thought. Nationwide Health Systems submitted my medical test results on October 09 and got my visa granted on October 16. I’m so happy, good things really happen when you least expect it. Ang sinasabi ko nga noon, “bahala na kung ma-a-approve o hindi”. Hindi ko na rin inisip mga ginastos ko or mga pagod ko, basta ang importante I did try my very best to satisfy the Case Officer. Pero, on October 16, I got an e-mail from the Embassy and I was anxious to read it pero nakita ko ‘yong title na IMMI Grant Notification. I was yelling when I finally read the content of the e-mail. My visa has been granted with your help po Yoshke at sa lahat po ng nag-comment dito.

Sa mga mag-u-undergo ng Health Assessment, paalala lang po that they would only start processing your application kapag satisfied na sila sa results ng medical exam mo.

And also, advice ko lang po to answer all the questions truthfully. Kapag nagkamali po kayo sa sagot, just fill up po ‘yong Form 1023 – Notification of Incorrect Answers.

I hope makatulong ito sa mga visa applicants diyan! Thanks again!

Hello Jona! I just want to ask on how did you request for your Sunlife investment transaction history? I am planning to use it as my proof of my savings, but I do not know if screenshots from my Sunlife portal is enough. Thank you!

There are 4 visas in this category with the 485 visa Australia being the most popular. This visa allows international students to study, live and work in Australia for 2-4 years. This is the main advantage of the 485 visa Australia since other post-study visas allow visa holders to stay for only up to 2 years.
