Where to Stay in Seattle for First-time Visitors

What makes Seattle so darn cool. First off, picture this: a vibrant blend of urban chic and breathtaking natural beauty. Yep, that’s Seattle for ya! We’ve got it all, from the iconic Space Needle piercing the skyline to the lush greenery of our parks and the shimmering waters of Puget Sound. But wait, there’s more! Think indie coffee shops on every corner, a buzzing music scene that birthed grunge, and a foodie paradise serving up fresh seafood and global flavors. Trust me, Seattle’s got that unbeatable cool factor. New in the hood and wondering where to stay in Seattle? Gotcha!

The best luxury hotel: Hotel Theodore
The best boutique hotel: Hotel Andra
The best hotel for family: The Inn at the Market
The best budget hotel: Ace Hotel Seattle

In a nutshell, here are the best 5 places to stay in Seattle for first-time visitors

  1. Downtown: For those who want to be in the heart of the action, Downtown is the place to be. You’ll find iconic attractions like the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, and the Seattle Art Museum within walking distance. Plus, there’s no shortage of hotels, restaurants, and shops to explore.
  2. Capitol Hill: Known for its eclectic vibe and vibrant nightlife, Capitol Hill is perfect for travelers looking for a hip and trendy experience. Enjoy live music, craft cocktails, and diverse cuisine options in this LGBTQ-friendly neighborhood.
  3. Belltown: Nestled between Downtown and the waterfront, Belltown offers a mix of upscale dining, boutique shopping, and trendy bars. It’s a great choice for those seeking a stylish and convenient stay with easy access to attractions like the Seattle Waterfront and Olympic Sculpture Park.
  4. Fremont: Quirky and artistic, Fremont is often referred to as the “Center of the Universe.” Here, you’ll find colorful street art, eclectic shops, and a laid-back atmosphere. Don’t miss the famous Fremont Troll or the Sunday Market for a true taste of Seattle’s bohemian spirit.
  5. Ballard: Located northwest of downtown, Ballard exudes a maritime charm with its historic fishing village roots. Explore the Ballard Locks, browse local boutiques, and indulge in fresh seafood at the Ballard Avenue dining scene. It’s a charming and relaxed neighborhood with plenty to see and do.

Seattle neighbourhoods to avoid for first-time visitors

While Seattle is generally a safe and welcoming city, there are a couple of neighborhoods that may not be the best fit for first-time visitors, especially those unfamiliar with the area. Here are two neighborhoods to approach with caution:

  1. Pioneer Square: While Pioneer Square is rich in history and home to some iconic landmarks like the Seattle Underground Tour and historic buildings, it also has a higher concentration of homeless individuals and some areas with a reputation for petty crime. Visitors should exercise awareness, especially at night, and stick to well-lit and populated areas.
  2. Rainier Valley: Located in South Seattle, Rainier Valley is a diverse and culturally rich neighborhood. However, it also has pockets that experience higher crime rates compared to other parts of the city. While there are some wonderful shops and restaurants in the area, visitors should be cautious, especially if they are not familiar with the neighborhood.

While these neighborhoods have their charms and attractions, they may not provide the best experience for first-time visitors who are still getting their bearings in the city. It’s always a good idea to do some research and exercise caution when exploring unfamiliar areas.

Ace Hotel Seattle is a budget-friendly hotel that offers a trendy and hip atmosphere. The minimalist decor and vintage furniture provide a cool and modern feel, while the affordable prices make it an ideal option for travelers on a budget.

Nestled in the heart of downtown, this quaint boutique hotel boasts beautifully furnished interiors with its own unique style. Of all the hotels and hostels I’ve stayed at, this one had by far the most comfortable bed – it was like sleeping on a cloud! The pillows were equally dreamy, providing just the right amount of support.

Though we opted for a room with a shared bathroom, the facilities were impeccably clean and spacious, with the added bonus of our own sink in the room. While some rooms come with private bathrooms, our last-minute booking didn’t allow for that luxury – but we were more than satisfied with our stay nonetheless. Plus, the hotel’s proximity to the Clipper Ferry Terminal (just an 8-minute walk away) made our travel plans a breeze. I can’t wait to return and experience this wonderful hospitality again.

Beautiful stay at this cozy and charming hotel! The lobby is inviting, and the staff was pleasant and helpful. Our room had a lovely art deco design, and the comfortable beds made it hard to leave. The bathroom mirror was a personal favorite of mine.

The room was clean and quiet, and although the AC was small, it worked hard. I can understand how some people might mistake the decor and paint choices as old and dirty, but it was actually quite nice. This hotel has character, and I would definitely stay here again.

In terms of location, it’s less than a block from the U-District light rail station and a short distance from the Ave (filled with numerous shops and restaurants).
