McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area

More than 75,000 acres of natural wonder can be found at Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness. This place houses the second largest concentration of natural arches in the United States of America and Canada combined. The best time to visit this place is early morning or late afternoon when the sun adds another layer of magic to the hundreds of red arches around.

Mesa Verde National Park

Mesa Verde, literally means green table in Spanish, gifts us a glimpse of the lives of the locals of Ancestral Pueblo from AD600 to 1300. Mesa Verde has 5000 known archaeological sites, including the dangerous 6000 cliff housings.

Mount Zirkel Wilderness Park

With a total of 160,306 acres, Mount Zirkel Wilderness Park is a haven for wildlife and nature lovers. If you spend some time here, it is guaranteed you can see some mystical animals like elks and moose.

Comanche National Grassland

Understanding Colorado

Here are list of things and places, which every newcomer to Colorado should get the hang off, to feel at home in this Centennial State.

1) Four Corners

The single point in the state where the borders of the four states of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Arizona come together.

2) Western Slope

Located on the western side of the Continental Divide, the place is home to the Grand Mesa, the biggest flattop mountain in the world.

3) The Divide

This ridge runs along the Rocky Mountain crest from north to south. Also referred to as the Continental Divide, because it divides the river flow to the Pacific Ocean in the west and the Gulf of Mexico in the east.

This is the name given to the 58 peaks that rise more than 14000 feet above sea level.

5) Centennial State

Since Colorado was inducted to the union in 1876, it also marked the centennial anniversary of the American Independence, hence the given name.

6) Front Range

Home to the cities of Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Boulder and Pueblo, this is point where the Rockies gradually make their descent to the plains.
