Now, Summer? Forget about it. It’s too effing hot—temperatures can soar to 40 degrees, and I’ve seen it reach a staggering 50 degrees! You might even spot locals frying eggs on the street. So, if you want your Hanoi travel itinerary to be enjoyable, plan your visit during those magical Spring or Autumn months when the city truly shines.

Personal tip: Bring warm clothes or if shopping is in your list, then you can easily shop warmer clothes in Hanoi. Hanoi is a shopping spot too. Not as crazy as Bangkok, but definitely a shopping destination too.

Getting to Hoan Kiem Area from Noi Bai Airport

1. By Taxi

• Grab or Gojek: Download and use the Grab or Gojek app to book a ride directly to your hotel in Hoan Kiem. Cost: around 300,000 – 350,000 VND.
• Airport Taxis: You can find official airport taxis outside the terminal. Ensure the driver uses the meter. Cost: around 350,000 – 400,000 VND.

2. By Shuttle Bus:

• Vietnam Airlines Shuttle: Departs every 30-45 minutes. Look for the shuttle bus signs at the airport. Cost: around 40,000 VND. Drop-off point is often at 1 Quang Trung Street, a short taxi or Grab ride away from Hoan Kiem.

3. By Public Bus:

• Bus No. 86: This bus runs from Noi Bai Airport to Hanoi Railway Station, passing by the Hoan Kiem area. Cost: around 35,000 VND. Look for the bus stop outside the terminal.

However, I highly discourage this based on my first experience navigating the chaotic streets of Hanoi. It’s a mad dog world out there, and unless you want to leave the city with a few scrapes, it’s best to rely on rideshare apps to keep your travels safe and stress-free. Plus, they are very affordable, and you can completely avoid being scammed by taxi drivers.

I can assure you that this city is a food lover’s paradise. If you’re ready to go beyond the typical touristy pho, here are my top ten food for first-time visitors.

1. Bún Bò Huế: This spicy beef noodle soup hails from Hue but is a favorite here too. The rich broth, lemongrass, and tender beef will kick your taste buds into high gear. This is my favourite noodle soup.
