Project Rebuild: To Kinatarcan on a Rough Sea

I asked Chad to write about our trip to Kinatarcan, knowing it was a crazy trip. I just told him to write with sincerity and honesty. But he was way too honest! But I actually loved it and laughed so hard while reading.  So here is his recounting of our trip to Kinatarcan: At the end of December, Jona and I had visited one of the small islands in Cebu where Yolanda had destroyed the homes and dismantled the lives of the inhabitants. We brought some donations and modest gifts to try to help the rebuilding process. It was encouraging […]

Alegria, Cebu | Sun Xi Beach Club

Sun Xi Beach Club Alegria Photos Staying a night at Kawasan was the original plan. But my muse remains a snob—and it is better that way—to Internet and phones. So we had to scout a place where I could finish some work and where Chad could check his sports. We enjoyed our stay at Sun Xi Mountain Resort—a sanctuary for those who want to have a break from the Internet and finish some works. 🙂 Like seriously. A man announced there would be a mass later on. The altar, to my personal amusement, would be the very place where the TV and speakers were. A foreign visitor sang “Find light in the beautiful sea, I choose to be happy,” […]

Kawasan Falls, Badian, Cebu

Starting 2014 with a Visit to the Muse | Kawasan Falls Cebu Philippines Photos

It is a personal pilgrimage. To visit my muse, that is. Despite my countless visits, Kawasan’s vigor strikes me as exciting as the first time I set eyes on her. We were supposed to visit this place on New Year’s Day to lead off the year with rush, flow, exuberance. Yes, my personal superstitions. We pushed our trip down south on the fourth and visited the muse on his last day in Cebu. Kawasan has changed. Considerably.  Last year’s earthquake collapsed the rocks at the second falls and the tiny falls between the first and the second. The lanky guy […]
